If you want your car to run well, regular maintenance is indispensable. The oil filter, air filter and gasoline filter all need to be replaced in a timely manner. However, it is believed that many people are quite familiar with mechanical filters and air filters, but they often overlook air filters. So, what is a gas filter? How often should the air filter be replaced? Let's take a look together.
What is a gas filter
The fuel filter, also known as the gasoline filter, is called the "kidney of the engine". It is a type of fuel filter that filters impurities from the fuel to provide clean fuel for the engine and protect important automotive components such as the engine and fuel supply system.
During the operation of the engine, a large amount of carbon deposits, gum, sludge, metal shavings and other impurities are produced. If these impurities are mixed in the engine oil and not filtered out, they will accelerate the wear of the engine. So it is necessary to filter out these impurities and keep them on the filter paper of the air filter, so that the engine can obtain clean engine oil.
According to the supply method of fuel, gasoline filters can be divided into carburetor type and electronic fuel injection type. After 2000, carburetor filters have basically disappeared from passenger cars due to their outdated methods. Currently, electronic fuel injection is mainly used in passenger cars. According to structural features, it can be classified into three types: ordinary direct-in and direct-out type, return oil pipeline type and integrated oil pump type.
How often does the air filter need to be replaced?
The replacement cycle of the gasoline filter depends on the cleanliness of the vehicle during daily use. Generally speaking, if the cleanliness of the gasoline is not good, the gasoline filter needs to be replaced in advance. Gasoline is relatively clean, so the replacement time can be appropriately postponed. The theoretical replacement cycle for the vast majority of built-in gasoline filters is 40,000 kilometers, and for external ones, it is 20,000 kilometers. The specific replacement should be carried out according to the mileage specified in the maintenance manual.
It should also be noted that if your car shows the following phenomena and other causes have been ruled out, it might be that your gasoline filter is too dirty or clogged. It's time to replace it.
A slight clogging of the gasoline filter element usually causes poor fuel supply to the engine, resulting in a decrease in engine power.
When the gasoline filter is severely clogged, the car may have difficulty starting or even fail to start at all. For instance, sometimes it takes 2 to 5 attempts to start the engine.
A moderately clogged gasoline filter element not only fails to reduce the car's power but also causes the engine to shake when idling.
Of course, all the above-mentioned malfunction phenomena can only be determined to be caused by the gasoline filter after other faults have been ruled out, because the malfunction phenomena caused by the gasoline filter are largely similar to those of the fuel system (such as clogged fuel injectors, etc.).
