A filter is an accessory that filters impurities or gases through filter paper. According to different filtration functions, they can be classified as: oil filters, fuel filters (gasoline filters, diesel filters, oil-water separators, hydraulic filters), air filters, air conditioning filters, etc. The engine has three types of filters: air, engine oil and fuel, which are generally called the "three filters". Together with the air conditioning filter, they are commonly known as the "four filters", respectively responsible for filtering the media in the lubrication system and combustion system, as well as the air intake system and the air circulation system in the engine compartment.

The filter industry began in the 1960s

The birth of China's filter industry began in the early 1960s. Under the planned economy system, the Shanghai Internal Combustion Engine Research Institute has done a lot of work in planning the industry's development, formulating product standards and test method standards, organizing the research and development of engine oil, fuel and air filter paper, and developing new filter products.

Automobile filters belong to the category of consumable parts. In the automotive maintenance process, their demand is on par with that of lubricating oil, and their output value is no less than that of other markets. However, according to media data, although Meijia Shell lubricating oil only occupies about 30% of the domestic automotive maintenance market, it has snatched 80% of the market profits. However, the automotive filter market lacks such near-monopolistic brands. There is often a chaotic situation among manufacturers and malicious competition. The high-end domestic filter market is mainly occupied by foreign-funded and joint venture enterprises.

The problems faced by the filter industry in the development of the automotive aftermarket

The filter enterprises are small in scale but numerous in number.

Now, to get to know other brands of filters, many people search for purchases online or ask friends for advice. Of course, some also go to exhibitions for face-to-face talks. According to the statistics from Qichacha, there are currently about 18,000 enterprises in China engaged in the filter industry, and about 6,000 of them are in the automotive manufacturing industry. Among them, Guangdong, Hebei and Zhejiang account for a relatively large number of enterprises. These regions are home to the major filter brand manufacturers in the industry. The brand names are also diverse. There are also some counterfeit and shoddy three-filter products floating in the market, causing trouble. When it comes to the filter market as a whole, apart from a few well-known foreign and joint venture enterprises, there are very few well-known domestic brands. In this regard, many industry insiders believe that one should build their own brand, expand the category through the brand and then stand out.

As long as the filter enterprises' OEM production is regular and meets the standards, it is still considered normal. It can also promote the flow of market products and open up the supply chain. However, some counterfeiting is very unforgivable. It is well known that when starting a business in the auto parts industry, the first choice is to operate consumable parts products. This does not involve volume sales and can also activate the capital chain, requiring less investment. However, in pursuit of profit, many people have engaged in the business of counterfeiting, passing off inferior goods as good ones to disrupt market prices.

Although the production concentration of individual enterprises in the domestic filter industry is low, the regions where enterprises are distributed are relatively concentrated. Domestic automotive filter enterprises such as Phoenix, Leopard King, Global, and Haiye are all quite outstanding. These brand manufacturers have their own channels and product competitiveness, while the products of most other domestic manufacturers are difficult to compete with the leading enterprises in terms of competitiveness. Mainly, they are exploring the market by lowering prices. Mahle, MAN and Bosch International brands have almost dominated the high-end passenger car market. Positioning and market cannot be compared overnight, so domestic market demand is accelerating and the industrial system urgently needs to be upgraded.
